Surrounded by Nature and mysticism.
The Belvedere degli Olivi is contoured by the 'Stradetta
di Assisi', a winding road among olive trees that offers
magnificent views and leads to the 'Maestą di
Mascicone'. This ancient shrine shelters a painting of
the Holy Virgin and Child, revered by the people of the
area who place flowers, candles and other offerings at
its feet.
It is said that during one of her pilgrimages to Assisi,
Angela of Foligno, was raptured in mystic ecstasy while
she prayed at the foot of the Maestą.
Frequent references are also made to Saint Francis and
his 'Canticle of the Creatures', there honoured with
handmade tiles that portrait the verses of the Little
Friar of Assisi.
Then, a number of roads unwind down the skirts of Mount
Subasio, affording landscapes and views which only
Umbria, in its variety, can bestow.
Of great interest are the famous frescos of Pinturicchio
in the Baglioni Chapel, in Spello, where it is possible
to admire the masterpieces of the Perugian painter, in
perfect conditions. |
